Finding maps

The State Library's Maps Collection encompasses more than 110,000 maps, drainage plans, auction plans, fire insurance plans, aerial photographs, geological and goldmining maps, topographic maps, township, parish, county and squatting maps, as well as geographical and cartographic reference books and atlases.

Over 25,000 maps and plans have been digitised and made available online through our catalogue, including the majority of our historical Victorian county and parish maps, MMBW, auction and fire insurance plans.

Finding maps is easy: from the drop-down box next to the Search box, choose 'Maps'. Enter your search terms and you're off! We have guides to help you with your research in using maps for local and family history and a guide specifically for navigating your way around the MMBW plans.
