Opening hours

If you're planning a visit to the Library, here's when we're open, how to get here and our printable Library map.

Library opening hours

Open daily 10am to 6pm.

Closed on New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Open all other public holidays.

The Ian Potter Queen's Hall is open daily 10am to 4pm.

Hansen Hall, accessible via Mr Tulk café, is open from 8am Monday to Friday, and from 8:30am Saturday and Sunday.

Cowen Gallery, including the North and South Rotundas, have the same opening hours as the main public areas except when closed for functions.

Temporary space closures

During the holiday period, the Library experiences an increase in demand. Due to capacity requirements, some areas of the library may not be fully accessible at all times.

The Pauline Gandel Children's Quarter will be closed from 10am to 6pm on Friday 9 January 2026.

Cafe and bookshop opening hours

Mr Tulk cafe is open daily 8am to 5pm.

Russell Street Welcome Zone and the Guild Cafe open at 9am Monday to Friday, and 10am Saturday and Sunday.

Readings bookshop is open from 10am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, and 12pm to 5pm Sunday. From 1 December 2025 to 31 January 2026, Readings is open 10am-6pm daily.
