Inside the Digitisation lab

23 April 2020

We've been digitising our collections since the early days of the digital age (1993, if you're wondering!) and it's our pleasure to introduce you to our photographer, Ross Genat, who works in the talented digitising team at State Library Victoria.

If you've ever marvelled at the luminous, detailed photos of the 800,000-plus collection items in our catalogue – from unusual jewels to medieval manuscripts, ephemeral pamphlets to timeless oil paintings – chances are it was Ross who created that image.

Venture into his studio for a peek at Ross' work and to glimpse some of the unique items he's photographing.

Gems from the Library

This is episode one of our Gems from the Library series, where we celebrate the treasures in our Collection and the dedicated and talented staff who care for them.
