Become a historian and step back in time to examine the changing features of Victoria.

Students will gain an understanding of the impact of colonisation during the 19th and 20th centuries by exploring State Library Victoria’s vast collection of historical artefacts.

This program is available onsite at State Library Victoria Tuesday-Thursday during term time at 10.00am, 12.30pm and 2.00pm, a maximum of two classes can be allocated at one booking time. 

Students will:

  • identify primary and secondary sources from the Library’s collection
  • identify and explain the causes and effects of the colonisation of Victoria  
  • explore historical perspectives of key individuals from Victoria’s past
  • explore how Melbourne has changed over time.

This program links to the Victorian Curriculum and helps students to:

  • identify and explain the causes and effects of European settlement and exploration (VCHHC070)  
  • describe perspectives and identify ideas, beliefs and values of people and groups in the past (VCHHC084
  • explore the role that a significant individual or group played in shaping and changing a colony (VCHHK092).
