This is your chance to meet and learn from some of Australia's most exciting and inspiring storytellers in a free school holiday workshop for 12- to 15-year-olds.
During the three-day workshop, Story Campers will:
- explore the craft of storytelling under the guidance of some of Australia's finest authors and poets
- participate in hands-on workshops to build creative skills and confidence
- find out what a career as a professional writer really looks like.
The facilitators for this Story Camp are:
- Maxine Beneba Clarke – leading a workshop on poetry and zine-making
- Caitlin McGregor – leading a workshop on nonfiction writing
- a soon-to-be-confirmed Voiceworks fiction editor – leading a workshop on fiction writing.
Who is eligible?
To be eligible for Story Camp, your school needs to have a value below 1000 on the Index of Community Socio-Educational Advantage (ICSEA).
Call us on 03 8664 7014 to check your school's rating or visit the My School website: go to your school's profile page, and you will find the ICSEA value in the 'Student background' section on the right of the screen.
Please be aware that we strive to accommodate students who represent a diverse range of schools and prioritise those students with fewer opportunities to access programs such as these.
Participants need to make their own way to the State Library. If you need assistance, we can send you a MYKI card with preloaded credit to use to travel to and from Story Camp.
Even if you don't need a MYKI card, you'll need to let us know whether you'll be picked up by a parent/guardian, or if you're going to leave independently at the end of each day.
We will provide lunch. If you have any dietary requirements, please include them on the participation form.
Want to join a Story Camp?
Please ask your parent/guardian to fill in the Expression of Interest (EOI) form to let us know that you would like to attend. We'll then be in touch to let you know whether we can offer you a place at Story Camp and how to register.
EOIs for the July Story Camp close at 11.59pm on Monday 24 June.
