Dinosaur drawings, animation classes and crafternoons are just a few of the activities on offer in State Library Victoria’s spring school holiday program to help keep kids entertained and learning.

1. Dinosaurs, drawing and books collide at the free online event, Children’s Storytelling Workshop with Andrew Plant in which the author, illustrator and former zoologist brings the prehistoric to life. Two workshops will take place on 21 September: the 11am session is suitable for children aged 5-8, and the 1pm session is suitable for ages 9-12. Both are run via Zoom, supported by Gandel Foundation and include a dinosaur drawing session. Booking is essential.

2. Dad jokes, dancing and drawing combine in an hour-long live-streamed interactive workshop, Book Party in the House. A celebration of books, hilarity and togetherness hosted by book creators Adrian Beck, Mick Elliott and Nat Amoore, this one hour of power will take place at 11am on 30 September and is suitable for ages 5-10. This program is supported by Gandel Foundation and booking via the Library’s website is essential.

3. For crafty fun, kids aged 5-12 can tune into a new series of videos that shows youngsters how to transform paper into amazing creations. Hosted in partnership with Paperazzi Design Studio, the videos will be available on the Library website throughout the September school holidays.

4. The Library’s brand new Family ebookshelf helps parents select the most appropriate of the Library’s 200,000 ebooks for their kids aged 12 and under. Titles currently on rotation include The Unexpected Crocodile, Night of the Living Ted and There’s a Goat in my Coat. The ebooks can be read online or downloaded for up to seven days by anyone with a State Library Victoria membership.

5. A new family audiobook-shelf will highlight children’s classics housed in the Library’s collection that are available to listen to for free. Titles include The Tales of Beatrix Potter, Stan and Mabel, and Peter Pan.
