Chess collection

Please note: The chess boards on the Library forecourt have been temporarily removed in order to be upgraded. They will return on Wednesday 10 August.
Dedicated to the history, study and practice of chess, The Ian Potter Queen's Hall is home to one of the world’s largest collections devoted to the ‘game of kings’.
The collection includes reference materials, magazines, and modern and historic works, most notably a book published by Caxton in 1483. The room is also home to chess game tables, historic chess sets and chess-related realia.
Take the lift or the stairs in The Ian Potter Queen's Hall from Level 2 (ground floor) to the chess area on Level 3 (mezzanine).
