About this video

Enjoy a performance of music from the songbook of Raja Sir Sourindro Mohan Tagore (1840–1914), performed by an ensemble of internationally renowned Indian and Western musicians.

Based on Indian ragas, these five highly charged tunes from the flowering of Indian culture known as the Bengal Renaissance represent a cross-section of Tagore's approaches to composition, and are performed here live for the first time since the 19th century.

The performance was the result of a 2013 Creative Fellowship by Dr Adrian McNeil, a senior lecturer in ethnomusicology at Monash University.

This event was held on Saturday 29 November 2014.
