Walking the Blue Lake

etching of wetlands

Before white settlement, West Melbourne's Yarra delta was a fertile wetlands teeming with birdlife and dominated by a large blue saltwater lagoon.

The pristine landscape became Melbourne's docklands, once polluted by rubbish tips, slaughterhouses and boiling-down works, and now redeveloped into a leisure and residential zone.

Dr David Sornig researched the area during his 2015 Creative Fellowship, resulting not only in a book, The Blue Lake, but also a series of walks through the wetlands with interested members of the public.
