The best cats in our catalogue

29 October 2020

We've scoured our digital archive to bring you some of the best cat portraits in our collection, all the way from the 1880s to the 1980s.

The images are accompanied by a piece of writing from a fellow friend of felines, 18th century French aristocrat Georges-Louis Leclerc, also known as the Comte de Buffon.

The Comte is best known for his 36 volumes of influential natural history works, and had plenty to say about these 'jolly, nimble, dexterous, cleanly and voluptuous' animals.

Watch the video above for your dose of cute kittens and cat musings.
