Library on the Lawn Festival, an end of summer event program hosted by State Library Victoria, returns bigger and better this month with a huge line-up of free activities and entertainment for Victorians of all ages.

Library on the Lawn Festival will run on Fridays and Saturdays over the next three weeks with a stellar program of free activities and performances by local artists, comedians, dancers, DJs and musicians.

Transforming the Library’s beloved forecourt into an urban oasis, the festival will feature live shows and music on stage, in marquees and roving on the lawn to entertain city workers, families and fun seekers.

Minister for Creative Industries, The Hon. Danny Pearson MP said, “Showcasing our incredible local talent and jam-packed with free entertainment, Library on the Lawn Festival offers even more reasons to explore the city. Over the next few weeks, the State Library lawn will host performances, live music and storytelling with Victorians of all ages encouraged to rediscover one of Melbourne’s most iconic meeting places.”

State Library Victoria acting CEO, Sarah Slade said she was delighted to give people an extra reason to spend the last of the summer days enjoying the city.

“It will be the perfect note to finish our summer programming on. As we have already seen this year, people will come to the CBD or venture out from work during the day when provided with incentives such as music, Storytime, comedy and entertainment,” said Ms Slade.

The exciting line-up of entertainment includes a dance workshop with Wurundjeri women’s dance group Djirri Djirri, a performance by Yorta Yorta musician and composer Allara, comedy by Josh Earl, a performance by singer-songwriter Georgia Fields, DJ sets by Andy McLelland, Emma Peel and Hot Wheels; a hip-hop and traditionally inspired performance by Indigenous group Culture Evolves and more.

Family-focused activities include a performance by comedic duo The Listies, hand painting with Little Party Faces, a magic show by Nicholas J Johnson, a headpiece-making workshop, and the library’s much-loved Storytime.

Library beanbags will be set up with umbrellas between 10am and 6pm, giving festival goers a comfortable and shady place to relax.

Library on the Lawn will run every Friday and Saturday between February 18 and March 5.
