About this video
Following a hotly contested series of heats in Melbourne and regional venues across Victoria, 13 poets battled it out in the state final of the 2016 Australian Poetry Slam.
Watch the winning poem by contestant Arielle Cottingham, an exhilarating incantation involving wayward women, history and weather patterns.
Then watch runner-up William Beale, whose defiant spoken word piece includes enthusiastic participation from the audience.
The winner and runner-up were selected by a panel of judges who had been randomly picked from the audience.
This free event was held at the Library on 2 September 2016.
