New nostalgia: the miniature Olympic Doughnuts Van, Footscray

26 April 2021

While the Library's collection is well known to contain books, photographs and documents, it also includes objects, sculptures and artworks which capture Victoria's social history.

One such item recently acquired is a miniature, lifelike replica of the beloved Olympic Doughnuts Van, Footscray by artist David Hourigan (2019).

David's extremely detailed and precise work captures the everyday places which might otherwise go unnoticed in the history records, scaled down around 20 or 30 times smaller than real life.

This replica is a 1:20 scale miniature, and details include a milk crate, rubbish bins, a tray of doughnuts and, of course, the iconic dolphin-shaped jam dispenser.
