The breathtaking aerial photography of 'Airspy'

26 November 2020

William Hansom, who went by the name 'Airspy', was an aerial photographer who teamed up with ex-military pilots such as Charles Daniel Pratt to capture unique bird’s eye views of Melbourne and regional Victoria.

These images cover many suburbs and rural locations from Coburg all the way to Lakes Entrance, and document some of the state's most historic buildings like Luna Park, the MCG and Queen Victoria Market. Airspy was passionate about capturing the progress of Melbourne over time, and did it with incredible precision and quality.

In this episode of From the Vault, we show you some of our favourite shots from the Library's vast collection of Airspy photography.
