As part of our 2017 #CreateArtHistory contest, we asked artists from around the world to find inspiration in this collection of big beautiful blooms and boldly coloured blossoms, and design original work to win incredible prizes.
Each image has been digitised from a selection of rare publications held in the Library's collection of illustrated botanical works, one of the most important in Australia. Brightly coloured tulips, delicate blue cornflowers, deliciously ripe fruits and a rare Egyptian water lily bring these precious books to life, reflecting the careful observations and detailed work of the original artists.
