Music scores & sheet music
The Library's collection of music scores extends from collected editions of the music of Bach and Beethoven to albums of songs by AC/DC and the Rolling Stones.
Founded on the great pillars of western music, the Library's collection of printed music includes monumental editions of many of the world's greatest composers. As well as Bach and Beethoven, you can find collected editions of music by composers such as Mozart, Haydn, Handel and Berlioz. Our manuscripts collection also holds some important Australian musical material, including works by Dorian LeGallienne, Peggy Glanville Hicks and Douglas Gamley.
For the operatically inclined, full scores and piano–vocal scores of the works of composers including Verdi, Wagner, Rameau and Rossini are also available.
Popular music is also well represented, from sheet music for individual songs to albums of chart hits and Broadway shows. Stretching back to the 19th century, our collection of popular songs encompasses everything from melodies made famous on vaudeville stages around the world to the hits of Paul Kelly and Bruce Springsteen.
Most printed music can be found using the Library's catalogue, and many volumes are available for browsing in the Arts Reading Room. Some uncatalogued material is currently only available through the song index in the Arts Reading Room.
