Privacy collection notice

At State Library Victoria, we collect, use, disclose and manage your personal information, sensitive information and health information (‘your information’) in accordance with applicable laws and our Privacy Policy.

By providing your sensitive and/or health information to us, you consent to our collection and use of such information. By providing the personal, sensitive and/or health information of another individual, you agree that you are entitled to consent to our collection and use of such information on behalf of that individual.

When we collect your information, we take reasonable steps to state the purposes for which your information is being collected, and the main consequences of not providing your information. In addition to any purposes which we tell you about at the time of collection, we may also use your information:

  • to manage and monitor actual and potential interactions with the Library, including communications and participation in events and activities;
  • to assess and improve the Library’s performance, services and facilities;
  • for actual and potential membership arrangements and associated communications, activities and processes;
  • for marketing and targeted advertising purposes;
  • for transactions, services and agreements involving the Library, and associated communications, activities and processes;
  • to manage safety and security, and any other purpose which enables the Library to comply with health and safety obligations, and ensure the safety of the building and collection;
  • to fulfil functions under the Libraries Act 1988 (Vic) and to comply with the law and compliance and reporting obligations.

We use third party systems and servers, a number of which are located outside Victoria. We share your information with third parties to enable us to achieve the purposes for which your information is being collected. Examples of such third parties include service providers for customer relationship management software (currently, Salesforce) and financial software (currently, Oracle). Donations

When your information is collected for an actual and/or potential donation arrangement, in addition to the potential purposes set out above, we may use your information for associated communications, activities and processes (including tax compliance purposes) and to potentially publicly acknowledge your donation (subject to Library discretion and any request for anonymity). All donations will be received solely for the Library’s operations. If you do not provide your information, we may not be able to accept a donation from you.
