State Library Victoria has announced Showtime Event Group as its new exclusive caterer and event partner as it prepares to open new world-class event spaces as part of its major redevelopment.

Since 2009 Showtime Event Group has delivered world class events in Melbourne’s heritage venues, including the converted wharf sheds in South Wharf and the Old Melbourne Gaol. They create a broad range of bespoke events and are specialists in business and boutique wedding events delivery. Showtime Event Group is a strategic partner of the Melbourne Convention Bureau and brings a wealth of award-winning events expertise to the Library.

The appointment of Showtime Event Group comes as the State Library prepares to open its first dedicated and purpose-built function space, the Isabella Fraser Room. The newly renovated heritage gallery will open in late September as part of the Library’s $88.1 million Vision 2020 redevelopment project.

The Vision 2020 project will also add another grand event space to the Library in 2019, The Ian Potter Queen’s Hall.

State Library Victoria CEO Kate Torney said the partnership with Showtime Event Group marked an exciting milestone in the Library’s once-in-a-generation redevelopment project.

“State Library Victoria is a truly unique venue and Vision 2020 will reopen some of our most stunning heritage spaces to the public," Ms Torney said.

“The Library was honoured to be recognised as Australia’s best specialty venue at this year’s Meetings and Events Australia (MEA) National Conference, and we’re excited to work the Showtime Event Group to continue to enhance the Library’s reputation as one of nation’s leading venues."

Showtime Event Group General Manager Brad Dabbs said the business was experienced in delivering outstanding events in Melbourne’s unique venues and was recently appointed as the exclusive caterer to the Old Melbourne Gaol.

“It’s a very exciting time to be part of the events industry in Melbourne, and we’re thrilled to partner with State Library Victoria to deliver world-class events in its stunning new spaces,” Mr Dabbs said.

Bookings are now open for the Library’s new heritage events space The Isabella Fraser Room – named after the Library’s first female staff member. The new heritage gallery is equipped with a new, state-of-the-art, production kitchen and can accommodate unique weddings, corporate events, business breakfasts and more for up to 200 guests.

The Ian Potter Queen’s Hall, the Library’s original public reading room, will reopen to the public in 2019 as a reading room by day and special events space by night. The Vision 2020 project will refurbish the 156-year-old space, revealing its heritage architecture and celebrating its 19th-century decorative scheme.
