With thousands of Victorian students currently undertaking remote learning, State Library Victoria has released a new online video series to help them get the most out of the Library’s abundant research tools and collections.

Designed for VCE, IB and VCAL students, the Senior Secondary Online Tutorial Series provides easy tips for searching the Library’s extensive catalogue, using the VCE research guides and accessing its wide-ranging databases.

The eight-part series will show students how to get the most out of the Library’s resources, covering a new subject each week.

State Library Victoria’s Program Operations Officer, Cobie Spencer said the Library has an important role to play in helping Victorian students, parents and teachers through this transition to online learning.

“The State Library has always been a pivotal source of information and learning for students of all levels.

“With the launch of this tutorial series, we hope to continue playing that role and offering guidance so that our myriad online tools can support students as they continue their education journey online.

“As students transition to remote learning, we know they will need support from their teachers, parents and community institutions now more than ever. This is particularly true for senior secondary students, who are facing added pressure as they prepare to take exams later in the year,” said Ms Spencer.

The Senior Secondary Online Tutorial Series will offer insights for students studying any subject, with the Library’s resources closely aligned with the Victorian education curriculum and covering subjects from history and literature to fashion and science.

The first episode is about getting to know the Library’s online resources, with easy tips on how to search the catalogue, research guides, image pool and databases. Watch it here, and tune in weekly for new instalments.

This series is just one of many online education resources available through State Library Victoria. The Library’s online collection is home to more than 4.1 million digital items including eBooks, images, artworks, maps, manuscripts, research guides, online exhibitions and more.
