The Inky Awards 2012 Longlist Announced

The longlist for this year’s Inky Awards has been announced.The longlist of ten Australian books, nominated for the Gold Inky Award, and ten international books, nominated for the Silver Inky Award, will be read by a panel of selected judges.

The judging panel includes four teen judges who were selected from over forty applications across Australia and two industry judges, which this year are blogger Danielle Binks and James Moloney, author and winner of the 2011 Gold Inky category.

Inky Awards judges have approximately two months to read all the books on the longlist and select five books from each list for the shortlist.

The announcement of the shortlist on 27 August then opens the awards to teens so they can vote for their favourite book via the insideadog website.

The Inky Awards were founded in 2007 by the Centre for Youth Literature and areAustralia’s first national awards for literature to be voted for by teens. 

Centre for Youth Literature’s Program Coordinator, Adele Walsh explains, ‘these awards are unique as the winning books are chosen by the target audience the authors have written for. It is a great way to get teens excited about reading and it is great for the authors to get that kind of recognition.’

The winner of the Gold Inky receives $2,000 and will be announced on 23 October 2012.

Schools can get involved and celebrate with guest authors at the 2012 Inky Fest on24 October 2012. Inky Fest is a stimulating day for students in Years 5 to 10 to meet popular authors including James Moloney and Rhiannon Hart, hear from publishing industry guests and celebrate the winners of the 2012 Inky Awards.
