State Library Victoria will bring to life the magical creation of books for this year’s White Night Melbourne Reimagined, which will see one of the city’s most iconic spaces transformed over three consecutive nights from 22–24 August.

Inside the majestic La Trobe Reading Room, visitors will meet a mysterious lift operator who will transport them to the depths of the Library where they will discover worlds imaginary, factual, historic, geographic, biographic and fictional as they learn what it takes to create a book.

State Library Victoria CEO, Kate Torney, said she expects tens of thousands of visitors to flock inside the Library’s doors despite the closure of the Swanston Street entrance as part of the Library’s once-in-a-generation redevelopment.

“The after dark projections in our spectacular La Trobe Reading Room have been a must-see since White Night Melbourne launched in 2013. With this year’s reimagined event spanning three nights, we’re excited to welcome many new visitors of all ages and backgrounds to experience the wonder and delight of the Library’s magical animations,” said Ms Torney.

The immersive six-storey projection will be presented together with DAE White Night and award-winning Australian company, The Electric Canvas.

This year, Library visitors will also be able to enjoy food and drinks in the recently re-opened Russell Street entrance, before getting crafty with zines and origami in the Redmond Barry Reading Room, and enjoying artworks in the Cowen Gallery.
