This page provides information and specifications for the Fellowship offices at State Library Victoria and is continually updated as we receive new feedback and details.

Path to the offices

The Fellowship offices are located in the La Trobe Reading Room (the Dome). To reach this area, proceed through the Swanston Street Welcome Zone and continue through the Quad to the elevators near the Cowen Gallery. The La Trobe Reading Room is located on Level 3.

Fellows can access the offices through the foyer or through the wooden doors in the La Trobe Reading Room.

Doors and entry ways

  • Swipe card access
    Access to the offices require use of a swipe card, which will be provided to all Fellows at the commencement of their Fellowship. 

  • Manual door operation
    Doors are not automatic and must be manually pushed or pulled to open.

  • Doorway widths
    Door frames range between 85 to 90 cm in width.

  • Hallway clearance
    The narrowest section of the hallway measures approximately 120 cm wide.

Fellowship offices

  • Office capacity
    Each Fellow is provided with an office space that accommodates 2–4 people, depending on the room.

  • Windows and lighting
    All offices feature large, fixed windows that allow natural light, complemented by overhead lighting for additional visibility.

  • Climate control
    Each office includes ventilation, cooling and heating systems to ensure a comfortable environment year‑round.

  • Glass panels and doors
    Most offices have glass walls and doors, supporting visibility and an open layout. Some offices have frosted glass and wooden doors, which offer more privacy.

Furniture

  • Desks
    Each office space includes desks that are approximately 90 cm high. These desks are not height adjustable.

  • Chairs
    Depending on room size, offices are equipped with at least 2, and up to 4, office chairs.

  • Additional seating
    Some offices also include alternative seating options, such as armchairs and a small coffee table.

  • Boards for display and notes
    All offices come with both bulletin boards and whiteboards for planning, display and note‑taking.

  • Storage
    Each office includes a combination of storage shelves and drawers for personal and work materials.

Break room

Fellows have access to a spacious break room that includes its own kitchenette.

The kitchenette features a countertop approximately 90 cm high, with storage shelves positioned above the counter surface.

Restrooms

  • Gendered restrooms
    Gendered restrooms are located on Level 3, Armstrong.

  • Gender‑neutral and wheelchair‑friendly restroom
    A gender‑neutral and wheelchair‑friendly restroom is available on Level 1, Armstrong. Please note that getting to this restroom requires additional travel time from the office area.

  • Alternative accessible option
    Fellows can also use the public unisex and wheelchair‑friendly restroom, accessible via the elevators on Level 3 near the La Trobe Reading Room entrance. From there, travel down to Level 2, where these restrooms are located near the stairs leading to Cowen Gallery.
