Alchemy

Do you have a big idea for a Library experience that will inspire and delight our visitors?

State Library Victoria is throwing open the doors to its reimagined spaces and extraordinary collections by inviting creative entrepreneurs, artists, producers and experience developers to help us build a suite of new online and onsite visitor experiences.

What is Alchemy?

Alchemy is a new program to support the development of cultural experiences and creative businesses.

It seeks to unearth Victoria’s best creative talent to help us develop interactive, entertaining and educational experiences that spark curiosity and fuel the imagination.

The program aims to help build a sustainable suite of online and onsite visitor experiences that will challenge perceptions of what a Library can be, while also supporting the recovering creative industries.

What will successful applicants receive?

Alchemy will offer up to 10 individuals, teams or organisations $20,000 each in grant funding to deliver a new concept, business plan or pitch that brings the Library to life in surprising and imaginative ways.

In addition to receiving $20,000 to develop a detailed creative concept over two months, successful applications will also receive:

  • access to the State Library Victoria team to support the development process;
  • one-to-one advice from an experienced creative entrepreneur, and
  • complimentary membership to the Library’s StartSpace Loft, with six-months access to a dedicated co-working space, programs and networks.

The creative development period will run from July to September 2021.

At the end of the Alchemy program, the Library will consider working with selected participants to bring their ideas to life, beyond the lifecycle of this creative development funding program.
