Play script: Mostly untrue (The exaggerated life of George Coppin)

Robert's research resulted in the development of a new play script exploring the life and career of one of the founders of live theatre in Melbourne.

The story focused on Coppin as an actor and producer in the early days of Melbourne theatre, and explored the wider context in which he was working.

Set in Melbourne, the play included characterisations of Coppin's historical contemporaries, and explored the political and social development of the young colony.

Dr Robert Reid has a PhD in Australian Theatre History and is an experienced teacher and academic with comprehensive knowledge of Melbourne, Victorian and Australian theatre history.

A playwright and director since 2000, Robert was the Artistic Director of the independent theatre company Theatre in Decay from 2000 to 2007. From 2011 to 2016 he was Artistic Director of the Live Games and Immersive Theatre company Pop Up Playground. His play scripts have been commissioned and produced by the Melbourne Theatre Company and a wide range of independent theatre companies around Australia and in the UK.
