Revisit the elegant, extravagant and sometimes outrageous world of fashion in Rennie Ellis’s photographs of Australians out on the town from the 1970s onwards.
Chaired by Janice Breen Burns, renowned fashion journalist and editor of fashion and pop culture blogzine Voxfrock, the panel will feature avant-garde fashion designer Jenny Bannister; fashion photographer and academic Monty Coles; and Rennie Ellis’s assistant and close friend, and Director of the Rennie Ellis Photographic Archive, Manuela Furci.
These figures from the fashion world and photographic industry will share and discuss some of the most iconic works by Ellis and his predecessors, Helmut Newton, Athol Shmith and others.
State Library Victoria is home to a freely accessible collection of Rennie Ellis’s photography, an extraordinary visual record of Australia's social history, popular culture and fashion.
This event is part of Melbourne Fashion Week.
