Explore the sub-genre of science fiction mashed with slam poetry for the ultimate night of entertainment.
Hosted by poet and science writer Alicia Sometimes, this eccentric evening will feature poets Eugen Bacon, Adam Ford, Lisa Gorton and Amie Kaufman reciting their sci-fi inspired poems followed by an open mic section with prizes.
Listen to DJ Hot Wheels' cosmic sounds and check out the upcoming, much-anticipated exhibition Handmade Universe: From craft to code and the spaces between.
There are great prizes to be won, including Readings Bookstore vouchers for the open mic competition (first prize $50, second prize $40 and third prize $30), a selection of poetry books for the best futuristic outfit, and spot prizes throughout the evening.
Enjoy a drink from our bar, which will be open before, during and after the poetry slam.
Please note: this event will be Auslan interpreted.
About Handmade Universe: From craft to code and the spaces between
The Handmade Universe exhibition explores how we connect with universal themes of place and identity through the act of making by hand. New commissions by artists, designers and makers combine craft and technology in often unexpected ways, alongside 68 rare and remarkable items from State Library Victoria and other collections.
