Join us for an evening of experiential storytelling as we enter the world of colour and explore how our perception of the shades and hues around us shape who we are.

A rare edition of colour theorist Mary Gartside’s groundbreaking 1808 work An Essay on a New Theory of Colours takes centre stage as composer, artist and prominent synaesthete Stéphanie Kabanyana Kanyandekwe and musician Ben Opie guide a musical conversation through sound, dialogue and projections.

Our third Salon After D’Arc event explores the role of colour in music composition, art, psychology and expression, across time and cultural contexts.  A rare copy of Gartside’s essay, purchased for the Women Writers Fund with the support of the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust, will be on display.

Featuring:

  • Stéphanie Kabanyana Kanyandekwe: Rwandan-British composer, multidisciplinary storyteller, broadcaster and synaesthete
  • Ben Opie: classically trained oboist, composer and advocate for new Australian music

A cash bar and complimentary grazing table will be available on the night.
