SalamFest Muslim Arts Festival celebrates peace, love and compassion through art. Across three days, the State Library will host music, dance, film, feasts and even a car decorated in Pakistani truck art!

Daily forecourt activities from 11am

  • SalamMobile: Meet Rumi, the car painted by Australian artists from Muslim and Indigenous backgrounds. Take a selfie, and drop by each day at 3pm to hear a talk from SalamMobile artist Sohail Yamin.
  • Henna art: Learn the art of applying henna to your hands and feet.
  • Pottery: Watch Mohamad Saubjaki create beautiful pieces using a pottery wheel.
  • Calligraphy: See Islamic calligraphy demonstrations by Omran Omer and Shakeel Tariq.
  • Ebru art: Be introduced to the Turkish art of hand-marbling paper by Oznur Ates.
  • Indian tribal arts: Watch as Bushra Hassan creates artworks inspired by Mughal art.

An hour of comedy with Nazeem Hussain – creator and star of Legally Brown, and one half of the comedy duo Fear of a Brown Planet.

Miriam film screening and Q&A

Village Roadshow Theatrette
Watch a screening of the 2007 movie Miriam (rated M), followed by a Q&A with the director, Kamran Pasha.

SalamFeast
6–8pm
Library forecourt
Feast on a vegetarian banquet prepared by Hana Assafiri and the team from Moroccan Soup Bar, accompanied by oud musician Safi Parwti. Bookings required.
