Join the curators of World of the Book for a special tour of the rare, sacred, iconic and historically significant books within the Library’s most popular exhibition. 

Celebrate Rare Book Week and chart the rise and restyling of the beloved book, with medieval manuscripts, Egyptology, 1950s pulp fiction and contemporary works of art and design all on display, 

Located in the galleries overlooking the magnificent La Trobe Reading Room, this exhibition celebrates the unique place of books in our hearts and minds. 

About the curators

  • Anna Welch is the Library's Principal Librarian History of the Book & Arts. She is a specialist in medieval and early modern book culture, and has been involved in the curation of World of the Book since 2011. 
  • Daniel Wee is Senior Librarian History of the Book & Arts at the Library. He is an experienced collection and exhibition curator with interests in self-publishing, graphic arts, and book illustration. He has been in the curatorial team of World of the Book since 2022.

Rare Book Week is an annual, Melbourne-wide program of free talks and events that celebrate the importance of books, literacy and literature in our lives. It has become a key event in literary Melbourne’s calendar since 2012.
