Library Expeditions 5

American author and book artist Johanna Drucker has categorised the artist book as ‘the quintessential 20thcentury art form’. State Library Victoria has been actively collecting limited edition books made by Australian artists since the late 1980s, and holds one of the major collections in the country.

This session provides an opportunity to view a selection of recently acquired artists’ books by Deanna Hitti, Phil Day, Gracia & Louise, Deborah Klein, and others.

Des Cowley is the History of the Book manager at State Library Victoria. He is co-curator of the Library’s permanent exhibition World of the Book and co-editor of Creating and Collecting Artists’ Books in Australia (2015).
