Lose yourself in a walkable photography art trail through Melbourne!

Inaugural winner of the Library’s Photography Fellowship Hayley Millar-Baker will be featured in an immersive outdoor photography display on the Library’s lower forecourt as part of the PHOTO 2021 international festival of photography.

In her work I Will Survive, Millar-Baker positions herself in scenes based on childhood memories of cautionary tales in the forms of warnings, myths, ghost stories and hauntings.

The series considers how memories change over time as they’re retold, and the ways past experiences continue to flow into, and shape, the present.

Bringing together landscape photography and studio self-portraiture, I Will Survive is a playfully dark and defiant series that tell us how we can learn through fear, and grow a voice through survival.

This is an outdoor work and will be accessible from 10am to 6pm daily on the Library’s lower forecourt from 19 February to 15 March.

This exhibition was commissioned by Photo Australia for PHOTO 2021, and is supported by State Library Victoria and the City of Melbourne Arts Grants Program.
