Join a free, self-guided Open House tour and explore the Library from dome to dungeon!
View the La Trobe Reading Room from the Library's sixth floor and venture into the underground catacombs. Come on an absorbing journey that traces the building's evolution since it first opened in 1856 as the Melbourne Public Library.
True to our tradition, the Library is continuing to evolve. Over the next four years our Vision 2020 redevelopment project will transform our spaces, services and programs – including reopening the Russell Street entrance, turning previously closed heritage spaces into public areas and opening new spaces for children and families, students, researchers and entrepreneurs.
Library tours can be undertaken at any time between 10am and 4pm during Open House weekend. Tours are self-guided and bookings are not required.
Presented as part of Open House Melbourne.
