Explore a new artform by participating in the Library’s new seasonal series, where participants learn from talented creatives in a hands-on workshop.

In this session, artist Lindy de Wijn, with the support of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Lace Guild, will introduce the rhythm and intricate beauty of bobbin lace. Each participant will learn bobbin lace’s basic movements and techniques to create their very own eucalyptus leaf.

The leaf designs for this workshop will be inspired by items from the State Library’s collection.

About Lindy de Wijn

Lindy de Wijn is a contemporary bobbin lace artist with an undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy and a Master of Art – Art in Public Space.

Lindy works in all scales and is often drawn to the Australian landscape for design inspiration. Her work is process-based with a deep connection to place, people and medium.

Lindy is drawn to the rhythm, texture and flexibility of design bobbin lace offers, and in recent years lace has become the major focus of her practice. Lace making continues to evolve from traditional techniques. Lindy is honoured to be part of its contemporary story.

Victorian Branch of the Australian Lace Guild

The Victorian Branch of the Australian Lace Guild actively seeks to promote lace and lace making throughout Victoria. They display lace, demonstrate lace making, and conduct exhibitions and workshops. The Branch supports the lace community with regular meetings, events, lace library, archives, lace collection, workshops and a bi-monthly newsletter.
