Create books you will want to judge by their covers. 

Join award-winning artist and bookmaker Deanna Hitti for an intensive full-day workshop on the precious art of bookbinding. Suitable for everyone, from complete beginners to those with more experience, you will receive step-by-step instructions and all the specialist materials required to create your own hand-sewn personal book with a beautifully finished hardcover.

Deanna Hitti has been perfecting the art of bookmaking for over 20 years. Her incredible skills will be on full display on the day, with the books that have seen her win Australian Printmaking and Artist Book awards available to peruse for inspiration. 

All participants (16 years and over) will receive the following materials to use during the workshop and at home for their future bookbinding creations:   

  • paper, cloth, boards, tape and bands   
  • bone paper folder  
  • bookbinding needle and linen thread  
  • steel ruler, cutting knife/blades, brushes, HB pencil, glue and eraser

About Deanna Hitti  

Deanna Hitti is an artist based in Naarm/Melbourne. Her arts practice spans over 20 years, and she has explored different formats of artist books to explore cultural diversity and identity issues. Her work, A is for Alam (pen), appears in our latest exhibition, Handmade Universe, which explores and celebrates the rewards of making.
