Chart the history of Hebrew manuscripts from their early beginnings through to present day, in this extraordinary exhibition featuring rare and important items from the British Library, State Library Victoria, the Jewish Museum of Australia and local collections.
Led by guides from the Jewish Museum of Australia, you’ll get an up-close look at the first Gaster Bible – one of the oldest known surviving bibles, a Torah scroll from China, and a work by the great philosopher Moses Maimonides.
Discover how special items like Yemenite amulet jewellery can bring ancient texts to life and inform a living tradition, and explore how centuries-old works, presented together with contemporary objects tell the stories of the vibrant Jewish communities in Melbourne and Australia.
Visitors are encouraged to explore the exhibition themselves after the tour ends.
