Realia
/riˈeɪliə/ (say ree'ayleeuh)
Noun, objects and material from everyday life.

Join us for an exclusive Melbourne Design week event where you immerse yourself in an augmented reality (AR) experience, bringing to life unique items from our heritage collection. Transforming realia poetically and aesthetically, this AR intervention gives you the chance to virtually co-inhabit the space with the objects, engaging with their history and long forgotten stories.

Each session will include artist discussions about the development of this project, plus questions regarding user experience.

Please note: iPads will be provided for the experience.

Hyperrealia is a Melbourne-based media art collective that explores the creative and critical potential of AR and ways to use AR technology to creatively engage with cultural heritage objects. Initiated by Donna Kendrigan during her 2018 Creative Fellowship at State Library Victoria, the collective includes media artists John McCormick and Chris Henschke.

Presented by Hyperrealia and State Library Victoria. This project was developed with the support of State Library Victoria’s Alchemy program and in collaboration with the EMD Studio, Centre for Transformative Media Technologies, Swinburne University.
