About the event

Join Exhibitions Curator Allison O’Connell to discover the Library’s Japanese chirimen-bon, or crepe paper books, now on display in the World of the book exhibition. These English-translated fairytale books were produced in the late 19th and early 20th centuries for the burgeoning international souvenir trade. Beautifully illustrated and intriguingly constructed, the secret of their production process was lost for nearly a century and only recently rediscovered.
