In 2016, the Library’s Rare Books curators discovered that an important 18th-century text on entomology (the study of insects) had been mutilated, with many of the exquisite hand-coloured engraved images cut out. It was the first clue in a detective story that led all the way to the Entomology Department at Melbourne Museum, uncovering the life of an intriguing 19th-century French aristocrat, the Comte de Castelnau, along the way.

Join World of the book curator Dr Anna Welch to crack the case of the missing beetles!
