Jump on board for an epic dance battle of the unis!

Led by dancer and independent producer Efren Pamilacan and lead artist Oliver Le, and judged by you. Choose who will be victorious in this celebration of Melbourne's freestyle dance community!

Witness up-and-coming dancers from RMIT, University of Melbourne, VCA and Monash University take centre stage to see who will win the 'Uni Sessions: Dance Battle 2023' title. Also, DJ Naru will be on the decks throughout the night, and light refreshments will be available to purchase.

Prizes to be won include a cash prize from Cypher Culture, a State Library Victoria Student membership (one year), and Readings Bookstore vouchers. 

A Welcome to Country by a Wurundjeri Elder will take place at the beginning of the evening. 

Please note, some of the music played during the dance battle may include explicit language.

The artists

Efren is a dance maker and independent producer who runs City Sessions at the Myer Music Bowl. His work crosses cultural and social spheres intersecting hip-hop culture, underground dance forms and the contemporary arts sector.  

Oliver is a self-taught street dancer/artist who has been dancing for 6 years and is diverse in styles such as hip-hop freestyle, popping, house and breaking. He is also one of the creators of Jam On Toast, one of Melbourne’s biggest street dance communities and an event organisation. Oliver is focused on passing on his knowledge of Hip Hop freestyle to help engage with the next generation of dancers in Melbourne.

Cypher Culture is a non for profit organisation empowering street dance and its communities.
