Ignite your child’s wonder with the sun, stars and the moon in this school holiday workshop at State Library Victoria.

Little explorers will discover the Library’s new exhibition, Handmade Universe, where at the heart of the exhibition is a giant, deep-blue knitted star map that represents the 88 constellations used in Western astronomy. Accompanying the star map is an interactive app which allows you to illuminate individual constellations on a tablet and learn more about their origins.

The tour is 30-minutes long and is followed by a workshop component where they will create their own paper star book to take home and fill with stories, pictures and whatever their imagination leads them to create.

At the end of the session, you will be offered a self-guided trail for the Handmade Universe - just in case you would like to explore the exhibition further.

Sessions:

  • 10.30am - 12.00pm for ages 5-8
  • 2.00pm - 3.30pm for ages 9-12
