John Stevens on zines
Librarian John Stevens reveals his passion for connecting people with resources, and in particular with the Library’s zine collection, the largest public collection of its kind in Australia.
'You know that it's a unique item, it's made of material that's not going to last, it's very ephemeral, and so it feels like quite a privileged experience'
As John explains, zines are perhaps the ultimate in ephemera – independently produced, frequently hand-made, and generally created for passion rather than profit.
John particularly admires zines' lo-fi aesthetic, hand-drawn or hand-sewn, and their often quirky contents. Watch the video to learn the difference between a macaron and a macaroon!
