Enjoy a day of craft by taking part in a variety of knitting, crocheting and yarn-based activities for craft lovers of all ages to enjoy.

Complete with local craft stalls, fun interactive workshops, and tips and tricks from some serious needle workers, this free event will ensure knitting becomes one of your favourite hobbies.

Drop-in sessions: not ticketed

Take part in pom-pom and yarn craft workshops hosted by The Studio Workshops for all ages throughout the day.

Join the Handknit & Crochet Guild Victoria to start, add, or finish knitting our never-ending scarf or create knitted squares to piece together a blanket. Both projects will be donated to the Knit One Give One initiative. Loaner needles, some pattern inspiration and some wool will be supplied.

Stalls available

  • Melbourne City Dyeworks: creates bespoke hand-dyed yarns, sourced from Australian and New Zealand with no two hanks ever the same.
  • Knitato: works to nurture your creativity, and rediscover the value and joy of taking time to create. They have knitting kits, yarn and tools available. 
  • Great Ocean Road Woollen Mill: is owned and operated by Isabel and Nick, with the aim of creating the most sustainable, ethical and environmentally friendly yarns in the world.
  • Yarn Industries: is created by Emma, who produces beautifully hand-stitched works inspired by Australia's incredible native wildlife and plants. Emma has available hoop art, beginner embroidery kits, purses and brooches.
  • Auti-Craft: is created by Autistic Professor Sandra Thom-Jones, who aims to spread autism awareness through the joy of knitting. Her stall will have original knitting patterns, tip sheets, and sensory-friendly kits.

  • Enjoy a talk with Sarah Spencer, the artist behind the machine-knitted star map featured in the upcoming Handmade Universe: From craft to code and the spaces between exhibition.
  • Bring a knitting, embroidery or sewing project you’re working on and join a 30-minute session with Kate Just while sharing thoughts on feminism, emotional labour and craft as a force for social change. Kate's work Anonymous was a woman is featured in the Handmade Universe exhibition alongside a first edition copy of Virginia Woolfe’s classic essay, A room of one’s own
  • Discover the new exhibition, Handmade Universe by joining curator Linda Short for a guided talk. The exhibition explores how we connect with universal themes of place and identity through the act of making by hand. 

Please note: door prizes will be available for the best crafts, which include 1x$100, 2x$50 and 4x$25. This has proudly been provided by Bendigo Woollen Mills, Australia's largest hand knitting and crafting yarn mail-order manufacturer, with various yarns and colours to choose from.
