Inspired by First Nations’ history and culture, Wylah: the Koorie warrior is a visual feast with an unforgettable cast of characters including dragons, megafauna and a young heroine that promises to ignite your child’s imagination.

The illustrated chapter book is co-written by Jordan Gould, an indigenous Australian, Peek Whurrong man, and Richard Pritchard, an indigenous Samoan man, who created visual effects for blockbuster films, including Happy Feet, Mad Max and The Great Gatsby.

In this workshop, children will get to know the history and culture that inspired Wylah’s adventures, learn words and phrases in Peek Whurrong language (an Indigenous Victorian dialect) and create their own megafauna animal in the illustration component of the workshop.

This workshop is suitable for children aged 8-12.

Please note: elements of this event may be filmed.

State Library Victoria Cultural, Family & Student members get early access to our upcoming events. To get your tickets ahead of the crowd, become a member today.

This program is supported by Gandel Foundation. Pauline Gandel Children's Quarter, also supported by Gandel Foundation, is a purpose-built space for children and families to read, learn and play, with an associated program of activities.
