Re-opening update

We welcome the next steps of easing restrictions for libraries, galleries, museums and other cultural institutions and look forward to being able to welcome Victorians back through our doors soon.

We are working closely with the Minister for Creative Industries and Creative Victoria to prepare for our re-opening with the required public health and physical distancing measures to keep our staff and visitors safe.

We look forward to sharing more and announcing our re-opening date in due course.

What measures will be put in place?

Creative Victoria is developing guidelines for libraries, museums, galleries, performance and other cultural venues outlining the actions to be taken to ensure the safety of visitors, as well as staff, volunteers and other workers.

These are being developed in close consultation with the sector, the Victorian Chief Health Office, Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and WorkSafe and will enable us to finalise our re-opening plans.

Temporary closure

We are continuing to monitor the COVID-19 outbreak and work closely with government and health authorities as we respond to this changing situation.

On advice from government, the Library will remain closed and all programming cancelled until 30 June 2020. This extended closure is a further preventative measure to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and keep our community safe.

In the meantime, you can continue to access Library collections online, along with thousands of free ebooks, journals and other databases using your Library membership number. If you don’t have a Library membership, you can sign up online.

You can also contact the Library through Ask a librarian for any research or collection queries you have, or for help finding information or using our online resources.

Information about plans to reopen or any other changes will be published on our website, in our e-newsletters and on our social media channels.

For up-to-date health information, please visit the Department of Health and Human Service’s COVID-19 information hub.

Thank you for your understanding. We wish you all the best during this challenging time and look forward to welcoming you back again soon.
