Introduce your students to a compelling range of primary sources and historical perspectives from Victoria’s complex colonial era.
For younger students
Younger students will be engaged, delighted and challenged by tales from Victoria’s past, enriching their understanding of the present.
Students in Years 3 to 8 will:
- explore perspectives of significant Victorians from the past, linked to key objects from the Library’s collection
- examine the causes and effects of European settlement in Victoria
- identify primary and secondary sources
- explore how Melbourne has changed over time.
For senior students
Senior students will examine and consider a range of sources and perspectives to sharpen their historical and critical thinking skills.
Students in Years 9 to VCE will learn to:
- conduct historical source analyses of John Batman’s deed and Ned Kelly’s Jerilderie letter
- use artworks to explore how Melbourne has changed over time
- pair sources to build an understanding of the colonial dating scene
- discuss the importance of recognising multiple historical perspectives.
