Shared Leadership Program

Facilitated by Sue Upton and John Martin of Upton Martin Consulting, the Shared Leadership Program is a unique opportunity for enthusiastic future leaders. The challenging program is focused on increasing the leadership capabilities of participants, now and for the future, through theoretical, practical and experiential learning opportunities.

The program helps participants to:

  • grow professionally, resulting in increased motivation and confidence
  • develop and practise enhanced leadership and teamwork skills
  • establish and consolidate peer networks across the Victorian public and State Library sector
  • be better prepared to take the next step in their career

Applicants may aspire to be senior library managers or to be leaders in specialist areas – the program is about leadership, not management.

Applications are open to all staff employed in Victorian public libraries and State Library Victoria, at any band level. You don’t need to be a qualified librarian to apply.

Action Learning Project Teams

As part of the program, participants work together to complete Action Learning Projects, which are chosen from ideas they submitted as part of their program application. In 2023, the following 4 projects were completed:

  • Inclusion, Diversity and Access
  • Professional Pathways (Journey Mapping)
  • Referral Pathways
  • Open Data

Navigate to the '2023 Action Learning Projects' section below for more information about these projects and their outcomes.
