Russell Street Welcome Zone art commission

SUBMISSIONS CLOSED
State Library Victoria's exciting redevelopment project, Vision 2020, is transforming Australia's oldest and busiest public library and one of Victoria's most important cultural institutions.
As part of Vision 2020, we are commissioning the production of an artwork inspired by the Library's extensive collection of materials relating to Victoria's flora, fauna and natural history.
The key objective of this commission is to produce a visually striking artwork that will welcome visitors to the newly redeveloped Russell Street entrance to State Library Victoria.
Expressions of interest
We are looking for an experienced artist to create an eye-catching, site-specific work to be reproduced as a large-scale exhibition vinyl wall graphic for temporary display in the new Russell Street Welcome Zone entrance foyer to the Library.
Please note: Expressions of Interest (EOI) for this project have now closed.
Selection process
The selection process for the commission will be across three stages.
Stage 1: Concept proposal
Applicants are required to complete an application form and provide a concept proposal (300 words maximum) outlining their idea.
Stage 2: Shortlisted artists
Three shortlisted artists will be selected and invited to provide a detailed concept and design proposal based on their original idea. As part of the final assessment, each artist will be required to present their concept and design to the Library's selection panel. A one-off proposal fee of $500 will be paid to each shortlisted artist.
Stage 3: Selection
State Library Victoria will select one artist from the shortlist and work with them to develop their proposal and digitise their work. The Library will cover final printing costs and installation of the work. The successful artist will be paid a total fee of $20,000.
Applications
Applications closed on Friday 11 May 2018.
