About Dromana beach holidays

Christmas excursions to Dromana were as much a holiday fixture in the 1870s as they are today. Some holiday traditions, such as beach picnics, remain the same, but for holidaymakers 150 years ago, just getting to the Mornington Peninsula by bay cruise was all part of the fun.

Contemporary reports note the sailing conditions and schedules, the beach walks and festivities in Dromana and Sorrento, and the musical entertainments and fish teas provided at the local hotels.
