Limited spaces & services open
Hansen Hall, Create Quarter, the ground floor information centre and Cowen Gallery are open for study and computer use from Monday 15 June.
From Saturday 27 June, the following spaces will also be open:
- La Trobe Reading Room
- The Ian Potter Queens Hall (level 3 only)
- Redmond Barry Reading Room (level 3 only)
- Newspapers and Family History Reading Room (by appointment only)
- Heritage Collections Reading Room (by appointment only).
A reduced number of seats are available to maintain safe physical distancing. To guarantee a seat, please book online
Fourteen computers are available in the ground floor information centre and you may book these for 45 minutes at a time. Two computers with assistive technology (e.g. screenreaders, text to speech, magnification software, alternative mice or keyboards) and a desktop magnifier are also available. (Different time limits apply for these.)
You will be able to book a computer when you are onsite at the Library. Computer bookings cannot be made online from home.
Free wi-fi is available if you'd like to bring your own device.

You may book for one of two daily sessions, seven days a week.
Morning session: 10am–1.30pm
Afternoon session: 2.30pm–6pm
The Library will close for an hour between sessions to allow for cleaning.
If you need assistance with booking, ring 8664 7000 10am-5pm, Monday-Friday.
Collection access will resume from 27 June. All items must be requested two business days in advance – including books on open access shelves in the reading rooms.
Requests for collection retrievals can be made from 24 June.
Please book your visit to the Library before requesting collection items. This will ensure you can access both the Library building and your items on the same day.
Visit the Library catalogue after completing your booking to search for and request collection items.
Heritage, Newspaper and Family History Collections
Access to the Heritage Collections Reading Room and the Newspapers and Family History Reading Rooms is by appointment only.
Please call 03 8664 7002 or email Ask a Librarian to book an appointment and order collection items.
Please note, only newspapers on microfilm/fiche are available to use at this stage.

When you book your visit, you'll be asked to agree to new terms and conditions of entry to ensure the health and safety of visitors and staff.
