Frederick McCubbin, Autobiographical reminiscences, c 1910, manuscript, State Library of Victoria.
Frederick McCubbin attended the School of Design when it opened in 1870, studying under Thomas Clark and then OR Campbell. In 1886, McCubbin became master of the school, a position he held for the rest of his life. This notebook covers his early years, and at this opening he recalls the tedium of the regime under Campbell compared with that of Clark, whom he liked and admired.
